"Staying at the Crooked Creek Retreat has made this vacation my favorite. I guarantee I will be back there many times in the future for another wonderful experience. Thank you Auntie Dorothy for such an amazing experience."
"Dorothy was extremely helpful in planning activities. She gave plenty of information about all the options when I first booked my trip and willingly answered all my many questions during my stay. My group decided on sea kayaking and halibut fishing out of Homer, a Fjords cruise out of Seward, a bear viewing/fishing fly-out trip, salmon fishing on the Kenai, and clam digging in Ninilchik. I am hard-pressed to decide which excursion was my favorite—they were all once-in-a-lifetime experiences! We saw every type of wildlife imaginable: eagles, sea otters, puffins, whales (humpback and killer!), porpoises, sea lions, bears, moose (in the front yard!), and more. A small group of us stayed here for the Tustumena Sled Dog Race is January of 2010 and we all thought it was great! "Aunt" Dorothy was a very welcoming on our arrival and wanted to make sure everything was just perfect for us. We had a very large bedroom downstairs and I couldn't believe it when I walked in to the bathroom and there were robes! Wow. Clean linens every day and a very comfy bed. Hot tub outside... she even had extra tooth brushes as one of our crew forgot theirs. There was coffee, tea and water available at all times and the food was excellent! It was the first time that I tried Eggs Benedict and she got me hooked! All meals were excellent! Very friendly, warm atmosphere... would definitely love to visit again - perhaps in the summer next time so as to do a bit of fishing. Go visit and say Hi to Aunt Dorothy and her dog Clyde."
“Well, my friend and I decided we guys would go to Alaska and do a week of fishing followed by our wives coming up a week later for some sightseeing and a minor amount of fishing. After our first day it was clear this was no regular place. I have stayed over 1,000 nights at various hotels and bed & breakfasts around the world and my expectations for Kasilof Alaska were normal. Crooked Creek Resort exceeded my expectations on every dimension. The staff and management at Crooked Creek Resort were fantastic. The cooking was top notch and the accommodations were also excellent. We were treated to a first class, all-inclusive (except drinks) stay and when our wives arrived in Alaska they loved Crooked Creek Resort too!”
“If what you want is a first class stay with great food in a lovely log home all while you are visiting Alaska - - this is your place”
“We leave tomorrow after 10 days here, I am wondering how we can take the staff with us. Although we were to be in Alaska on business this trip, we made the relaxing drive from Anchorage to Kasilof to enjoy Crooked Creek Retreat, instead of a hotel. The lodge is ideally positioned on the Kenai Peninsula, near the famous fishing grounds of Soldotna, Homer, and Anchor Point and a short trek (and beautiful drive) over to Seward. When you pull into the drive, you will notice the amount of care and attention that Auntie Dorothy, family and staff have made, on behalf of those that are lucky enough (or had the keen insight to book multiple times!) to stay at the lodge. Arrive early or arrive late, something is always waiting for you, snacks, dinner, horseshoes, fire pit, the sound of Crooked Creek, amazing deck space or even just watching a local moose graze with her young calves. Did I forget the fishing, well that is all taken care of as well! Halibut, Salmon, Trout on the many rivers and the ocean so tell Auntie what you like and she will arrange it, if you want to try something for the first time like a fly-out to view bears or an up close look at glaciers, let her know that too. The fishing guides and lodge staff will truly take great care of you. Oh the FOOD, well you must try that for yourself! The one-stop shop with customized packages for your stay on the Kenai Peninsula is a true "retreat" just a few miles past Soldotna, across the Kasilof River and on the banks of Crooked Creek!”
“I was sent to Alaska for business but being an avid fisherman I wanted to get on the Kenai. A week before my trip I started researching places to stay understanding that with such a late booking I would likely not be staying in the greatest of places. I couldn't have been more wrong. I contacted Crooked Creek Retreat via email to see if a space was available and I got a response within an hour. Then I called Dorothy and booked to my two nights and a full day guided trip on the Kenai.”
“5 Star Accommodations - The Lodge is perfect. The architecture fits perfectly on the slope overlooking Crooked Creek. The rooms are large with oversized windows and attached bathrooms. The bed was very comfortable."
"Dining- 5 stars - The on-site chef created some wonderful dishes and was overly accommodating to the guests' dietary needs."
"5 Star Fishing - The lodge has Guides onsite that allows for guest input regarding the upcoming fishing excursions. My trip included spending the morning for Kings and the afternoon for reds. I hooked into and landed my king within two hours on the Kenai and then spent the afternoon filling up my cooler with Reds. The fish was then sent to a local processor to be bagged iced and boxed. I brought the fish home on the airline as my second checked bag.”
“My son chose Alaska for his 10th year birthday trip. We arrived the 25th of June and stayed a week. Halibut was hanging and other guests were enjoying the day they had on the "salt". Ocean from where I come from. Greeted by Aunt Dorothy and welcomed with open arms. Fishing was the purpose of the trip and we were not disappointed. My son was treated like one of the guys and was looked after by all the guides. He caught Halibut, sockeye, hooked and I helped him land a 57lb King and rainbows. We were on the Kenai, Kasilof, the salt and a neat fly-out for a full morning. Saw bears, moose, more eagles than you can imagine, whales, sea otters and unbelievable scenery. My husband, who has been fishing for over 40 years, commented on the professionalism of the guides on both the Kasilof and Cook Inlet (fresh and salt water) . We shipped 100 lbs. of fish back to the states and thus far our meals have been out of this world. When we left we felt we had new members of our family and will definitely be back to experience more that Crooked Creek Resort has to offer.”
“Terrific place to stay. The rooms, the view and the people make it a comfortable place to relax after a day of fishing. If there is a better place to stay on that side of the Kenai I'd like to know. Not a bad room in the house, you will enjoy!!!"
"The staff is very flexible. Because of the variety of early hours that the fisherman had to depart, they changed the breakfast routine to a great buffet selection of breakfast sandwiches, fresh fruit and juice, yogurt, cereal and endless carafes of coffee. They packed us filling lunches every day including thick sandwiches (homemade meatloaf, sliced pork, egg salad – whatever you asked for) with fruit, chips and dessert (homemade brownies!).”
“These people are a well-oiled machine who know how to offer hospitality, expert guided fishing and all the services associated. My husband and I have been to Alaska three times prior, but the other two couples had not. I can assure you that I (who chose the lodge and the itinerary), will be forever a hero.”
“If you are ever traveling in the Kasilof area, you need to stay here. Dorothy makes you feel at home. The Retreat is everything you would want in a vacation. The meals are out of this world. The accommodations were great. Beds felt as if they were new. The guides that she sets you up with to fish could not have been any nicer. They put you on fish every time you fished. Sure wish I could go back there every year. If you want a home base while traveling the western side of the Kenai Peninsula, stay at the Crooked Creek Retreat. You will not be disappointed. P.S. - Clyde the dog is the best. Going to Alaska was on our bucket list and supposed to be a once in a lifetime adventure. It turned into...when are we going back. Auntie Dorothy and family were a big reason for this. We had such a great time fishing, bear flight-seeing and just hanging out with Auntie and her friends and family. We spent two weeks in Alaska with one week at Crooked Creek and wished we could have stayed longer. The food Auntie serves is soooo good I highly recommend losing weight before your trip so that you don't gain 7 pounds like we did. After two months we're still trying to lose it. We can't say enough good things about our experience. You definitely feel like family when you stay here. So much so that we miss everyone terribly."
"Best service, wildlife viewings, and gourmet food our family has found up here in Alaska. This fishing lodge was perfect for our family, even though only one of us was fishing. The family owned and operated lodge and fishing charter service were extremely accommodating, especially with meals for non fish eaters! We were welcomed as dear friends and would be back in a heartbeat. Wishing Dorothy and her enthusiastic sidekick Clyde a great season!”
"I stayed at Crooked Creek Lodge in the 'off-season' and it felt like time spent with a good friend! The lodge is massive, yet cozy. I was treated like a friend, yet given time to be by myself. The path is a friend's house is never long. Yet I long to return to Dorothy's place. Her attention to me was incredible, the culinary masterpieces absolutely surprised me and Coho and Clyde added so much warmth and welcome."
"Crooked Creek Lodge is an incredible retreat. For those who long for a quiet time by a crackling fire, with a hot cup of cocoa and home-made brownies on a cold night, with a friend, then come 'home' to Crooked Creek. Crooked Creek Retreat is huge with large, beautiful rooms and lots of places to just relax and enjoy the incredible views. I love the moose and eagles right out the door! (We were there in winter so no fishing but the Crooked Creek is right out back.) Fun memorabilia everywhere to just enjoy, or tons of books, games.
I would still be there if I could...What a great experience."
"This was such a fabulous find. The house is beautiful inside, decorated with all stuff Alaska. The rooms all have a different theme and very tastefully done. Great place for 2 people or a group. Dorothy is the added bonus. She makes you feel right at home and we really loved her dogs(they are only allowed in the common areas.) Our room was amazing-very private and spacious. I am so grateful for Trip Advisor that I found this place because the other place I had almost booked was horrible when I saw it. This is a jewel on the Kenai and I would recommend it to everyone. Just call and talk to Dorothy and you will be sold just like I was. I will definitely stay there again when I go to Alaska."
"I had the opportunity to spend 7 amazing nights at Crooked Creek Retreat with 4 other family members which including 5 days of fishing & outstanding accommodations. Every aspect of this "retreat house" exceeded my expectations. Each day was better than the next, as our trip was organized by Dorothy to fit our fishing desires. The 9,000 square lodge cabin is well designed to keep you and other guests apart or together, depending on your choice. Dorothy Baker makes Crooked Creek Retreat the best place on the peninsula and it is truly the most outstanding place to stay with family & friends when visiting Alaska."
"Our family stayed at the Crooked Creek Retreat in July 2009. The accommodations were incredible, and Dorothy the hostess was even more incredible! The rooms are clean, comfortable and have every amenity to make you feel at home. The food is delicious and every detail of our trip was taken care of by Dorothy and her incredible staff. We were able to get a fishing guide service within minutes of requesting one and Dorothy spared no detail in making sure our stay was comfortable. I would highly recommend the Crooked Creek Retreat to anyone staying in the Kasilof area – you won't be disappointed!"
"Words cannot express the great time we had staying with Dorothy Baker at Crooked Creek Retreat. The amenities that are available were more than we ever could have expected. The personal care we received was above and beyond anything we imagined it would be. "Auntie Dorothy" took care of our every need. The beauty of the lodge and the surroundings were breath taking. I research and look at every angle on a trip before I book due to my husband being in a wheelchair and the room we stayed in, "the lodge room." Met our needs and was so very comfortable after a long day and night sightseeing or cruising the Kenai."
"If I could say one thing about our trip to Alaska that impressed on me about our stay at this retreat would be that you can see in every board, every decoration, every detail of this lodge has "Auntie Dorothy's" love and heart in it. She took so much care and thought into making this retreat somewhere to return time after time. Bless you Mrs. Dorothy! We love you for taking such good care of your patrons."
"My family and I stayed here for our 1 week fishing trip. It blew our expectations out of the water. They treated us like family and made sure we had a great time. The guides "put us on the fish" and made the whole experience fun. Thanks to the central location, we had plenty to do on our non-fishing days. The Lodge and accommodations were perfect."
"Crooked Creek Retreat not only met our expectations, it exceeded them. We booked a seven night stay at Crooked Creek Retreat based off of previous comments listed on Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed. The retreat is first class. The common areas are very large. We did not feel crowded at any time, despite the retreat being fully booked. The bedrooms are large and have a private bath. We stayed in the Moose Suite. We enjoyed viewing the wildlife from our private balcony. It was very relaxing to listen to the sound of the creek flowing when it was time to go to sleep. Auntie Dorothy prepared breakfast and lunch each day which was more than we could eat. They have a first class fishing operation. We had six great days of fishing, catching halibut, king salmon and sockeye salmon. It was a great vacation. While at the retreat and on fishing excursions, we saw all types of wildlife including moose, bald eagles, bears, whales &, sea lions. In addition, my wife took a day trip to the Kenai Fjords in which she saw glaciers, waterfalls, hump back and orca whales, puffins and sea lions. In summary, we had a great vacation. We would not change a thing. We arrived at Crooked Creek Retreat as a customer and left as a member of the Crooked Creek family. We will be back."
"From the time I first entered the retreat, I was taken by its grandeur. Other lodges look great in pictures- then you arrive to a disappointment. This is the real deal. All rooms beautifully adorned with full baths. Auntie Dorothy`and staff will leave you feeling spoiled with gourmet meals and lunches to go on your day of fishing, sightseeing, hiking or any of the many wonders this perfectly located retreat has to offer. Watch Salmon migrate in the back yard creek, or read a book in the library. This plush retreat allows access to the Kenai and Kasilof rivers in minutes, as well as an easy drive to Ninilchik, Anchor river, and Homer. It stands alone on its own stretch of the road offering a uniquely peaceful experience. I was saddened to leave, but will count the days until I can return- I highly recommend Crooked Creek Retreat."
"We stayed two nights at the Crooked Creek Retreat with Dorothy and enjoyed every minute of it. The three story handcrafted log home is beautiful and comfortable! We stayed in the Moose Room with it's private deck overlooking Crooked Creek. It was the very definition of luxury - the linens, the towels, the complimentary bathrobes. Dorothy's breakfasts are superb and filling. She thinks of everything to make a guest comfortable and feel right at home. In fact, we didn't feel we were "paying guests" but family who had come home for a visit."
"Crook Creek is centrally located to Homer and the Kenai and Kasilof Rivers for fishing and sight-seeing - bears, bald eagles, lots of salmon and rainbow trout. Come visit Aunt Dorothy - you'll love it."
