Did you know? The limit for Halibut in our area is two.  Halibut will yield around 50% when cleaned and filleted.  ADFG reports the average catch is two 30 lb Halibuts.  So if two of you catch the average you will have over 50 pounds to take home. The average price for Halibut fillets is $19 - $22 a pound.  Two 30 lb Halibut are worth $570 @ the low end. The world record Halibut weighed 459 lbs. Males rarely weigh over 100 lbs. Females lay eggs from hundreds of thousands to over a million at depth between 600 to 1,500 feet.  They spend the first part of their life swimming up right then at about 1 inch the eye moves and the underside changes color to white. Halibut can live 30 years and you can determine the age by counting the rings in the cartilage of the inner year much like counting rings in a tree.

The "Retreat" Fun - Spring Summer Fall and Winter

We can plan an Alaska Adventure whether you are touring or fishing.

Family Weeks Chose a week for your family trip.  We will gear up for bear viewing, water taxi tours, Fjords tours, hiking, lunch on a glacier, Sled dog tours, horseback riding, rafting, kayaks, canoes and general all around fun with kid friendly meals and actvities.  4th of July week  or 1st week of June are great for families.

May  We kick off our fishing season -  remember the world record King Salmon was caught right here in May. Salt water fishing is on again and you can go for those huge Halibut.  By the last week of May we can get you out for some pretty great bear viewing and bush plane excitement over glaciers, landing on a beach and a hike. All those baby moose are born around the 3rd to 4th week.  The eagles are fishing steelhead in our creek.  Or bring Mom out for Mother's Day.

June We are in full swing - Fly outs, Kings, Sockeyes, Halibut, and great long range trips.  Everything has turned green again, summer is here and our spirits soar.  The eagles, arctic turns, and sea gulls are all fishing the creek.  1st week of June is a good family reunion week, book the whole lodge and get the family together.  How about treating Dad to a fishing trip for Father's Day?  Trout fishing opens on the Kenai the middle of June.  We even have casting lessons, fly tying, and a great fly fishing guide!

July  Fishing Only are weeks two through the end of July and are exclusively fishing weeks.  We are fishing all species!  Everything is full steam ahead, the hanging racks are full of fish and spirits are high.  We have fired up the campfire for evening fish stories, the flowers are finally blooming.  1st week of July, family fun with a great 4th of July barbrcue.

August  Absolutely the best weather and fishing.  Early August we are after the Sockeyes and then are full on Silvers and Salt fishing.  Take an upper Kenai Trout trip, a long range Halibut, rock fish, Yellow eye, Ling cod, and pick up a few Silvers.  We take several trips out of Seward for Ling Cod and/or Silvers and rock fish.  This great Salt fishing, great weather and seas.  Fly outs going strong.  Our creek has opened for fishing on the 1st of the month.

September   Trout fishing is at its best!  Still after those Silvers, and fishing the salt for Halibut, ling cod and rock fish.  Everyone is back in school, the bears are making their last feeding frenzy, Silvers are spawning in our creek.  We are ready to fish the Kenai, Kasilof, Anchor River and Deep Creek for Stellhead.  We even have Steelhead in Crooked Creeek.

October   We have put away most of the deck furniture by the middle of the month and are awaiting the first snow.  Steel head, Halibut, and some great late trout fishing.  Carving pumpkins, keeping the moose outside, and steaming hot apple cider on the wood stove.  Come join us for the last of the Season.

November  We are gearing up for holidays.  Spend Thanksgiving week with us for great food, warm fires, card games, board games and good company.  Think about a family week with us over the holiday, let us do the work while you enjoy the family time.   The creek is freezing over and changes everyday.  Given enough snow it can be snow machine time and cross country skiing.

December  The Holidays are here, there are several Christmas activities in the area, the lodge is decorated, lights blinking, fires blazing, snow falling and goodies popping out of the oven, a perfect get away weekend, or holiday week.  How about a dog sled ride, some sledding, snow shoes, cross country skiing or those good old snow machines.

January  New Year's Eve fun, followed by football of course.  How about getting the girls together for a week end slumber party, eat, be merry, sit in the hot tub, get your nails done, a pedicure, a massage or just pain fun.  Do you like ice fishing?  Or any of the other winter sports, or come by for the Tustemeana 200 Sled dog race at the end of the month.  Or we have a week available for a scrapbooking, quilting, knitting, or book club or such retreat.

February  We have a regular quilting group that visits each year for a retreat,  or bring your group,  or bring your sweetheart for Valentine's Day. How about a week of being a musher with the sled dogs.  Get acquainted with the sport of sled dog mushing.  A chance to care for the dogs, learn the ins and outs of setting up the team, the sled and then drive the team!  Heck for the brave there is even salt fishing for winter Kings.

March  Well we can almost smell the end of winter,  last chance to get in that snow machine weekend.
This is a popular time for Quilting and Scapbooking weekends.

April
Spring is coming we just know it.  How about an Easter Weekend?  Time to celebrate, come on out for a little fun.
