Float plane landing at the
Bear Viewing sight
Did you know that Brown Bear and Grizzly bears are actually the same.  Brown Bear is the name given to the ones found by the coast and Grizzly Bear is the name given to the ones found inland.  Black Bears climb trees very easily so, that is not a good escape.  Even climbing a tree to avoid the fearsome Grizzly will probably get him to shake the tree and tumble you down for a little added proteins for his diet before his long sleep

Did you know?  Alaska Salmon spawn in the gravel in creeks and rivers.
Their eggs lay on the bottom all through the freezing and hatch in late winter. They lay their eggs hidden in gravel about 18 inches deep or so and by a rill in the water so that the fast flowing water will bring plenty of osygen to the eggs.  Some bad eggs will float and the trout will congregate to get a free meal on the non fertile eggs.

Did you know?  The biggest mistake in cooking fish is over cooking.  The fish will continue to
cook after it has been removed from the heat.  So the trick is to take it off just before it is done.
When is it done, just when the center loses the shiny raw color and turns opaque.  Not one second
longer.

        Fish Room, Kasilof Alaska lodgeing

The Fish room, a sleigh bed, plenty of little touches,
black out blinds and private bath of course.,  we
can add a deluxe roll a way if needed.  This is a
real; favorite room at the end of the hall, very quiet.

The Duck Room at Crooked Creek Retreat, with Black out blinds
Did you know? That by the time we get to the summer solstice on June 21st, we have  18 hours and 20 min of day light.  July has even more an additional 25 min, But don't count on 6 hours of dark, the sun even after sunset still lights the night on most nights.  Some nights it is dusk all night!  Black out blinds are a real good idea in Alaska.    Barrow to the far north has 24 hours day light June July and August.  They have 0 hours of day light December and January.

Oh, the Duck room, views from two sides, large private
bath with vanity for the ladies.  Of course with spa robes as in all our rooms.

If you are ever traveling in the Kasilof area, you need tostay here. Dorothy makes you feel at home. The Retreat is everything you would want in a vacation. The meals are out of this world. The accommodations were great. Beds felt as if they were new. The guides that she sets you up with to fish could not have been any nicer. They put you on fish everytime you fished. Sure wish I could go back there every year. If you want a home base while traveling the western side of the Kenai Peninsula, stay at the Crooked Creek Retreat. You will not be disappointed. P.S. - Clyde the dog is the best.

We went for a weekend of guided fishing. Everyone had a great time and the lodge was outstanding! Everything was taken care of for us....lunches, packing fish, excellent breakfasts.

The entire group felt very comfortable with the staff and fishing guides. And the food...we couldn't ask for anything better. This is certainly better than staying at a hotel or B&B, because we didn't have to go out and find a place to eat in the evening, or worry about lunches during the day.

The lodge is very beautiful, roomy and clean.

This is the third time we've stayed at Crooked Creek, and we love it each time.

Going to Alaska was on our bucket list and suppose to be a once in a lifetime adventure. It turned into...when are we going back. Auntie Dorothy and family were a big reason for this. We had such a great time fishing, bear flight-seeing and just hanging out with Auntie and her friends and family. We spent two weeks in Alaska with one week at Crooked Creek and wished we could have stayed longer. The food Auntie serves is soooo good I highly recommend losing weight before your trip so that you don't gain 7 pounds like we did. After two months we're still trying to lose it. We can't say enough good things about our experience. You definitely feel like family when you stay here. So much so that we miss everyone terribly. Hugs to Auntie, Max, Dustin, Jessica and most importantly, Badger! We can't wait to return.

As we stepped off The Stage Line at Crooked Creek Retreat and were greeted by a yearling moose, Auntie Dorothy and her faithful dog Clyde, our wonderful 5 night stay began. The lodge was immaculate, spacious and decorated with everything Alaska. Our friends came later in the day for a fun filled week. We stayed in the Moose Room with a deck overlooking Crooked Creek which became our quiet, peaceful haven after a long day of fishing. Carson, Jake and Dustin of Russell Fishing Co. were fun and knowledgeable guides for our river, fly-out and halibut fishing trips. We had lots of fun and caught lots of fish--all due to Dorothy's and Jessica's scheduling. And, FOOD, FOOD, FOOD--not just cold cereal or a pop tart but gourmet breakfasts and dinner was not just hamburgers, stew and hot dogs--we had pork loin, prime rib, halibut and much, much more. 5 STAR!!! We begged Dorothy for a lunch box when we were leaving. Crooked Creek is definitely the place to stay if you want to experience an awesome time! Dorothy and her staff cater to your every need(even ear plugs to block out a snoring husband) and makes you feel like family. In casual conversation, don't forget to ask Auntie Dorothy about Fletch--she has some wonderful stories. We highly recommend Crooked Creek and will absolutely tell all our Texas friends.
