Sled dog racing

We are the home of Race Central for the T 200

 Race 2010  - January 23rd

Sled dog racing is one of our favorite pastimes here on the Kenai Peninsula. It is highly steeped in tradition and history. That is why we support the premiere sled dog race on the Peninsula: The Tustumena 200.

The Tustumena 200 was founded in 1984 by Dean Osmer. A local Peninsula musher who also had won the Iditarod that same year. Dean had started this race to help his son accumulate the required 500 miles of racing to be able to compete in the Iditarod.

Over time the race had grown so much that it was required to reorganize and become more official. An association, the T200 Sled Dog Race Association, was created to give it the structure required to handle its continued growth. Because of it continued growth and improved structure the Tustumena became a qualifying race for the Iditarod. Now the Tustumena 200 draws in mushers from all over the world for a chance to compete for glory and a chance to mush in the Iditarod.
